about

The ?uestion Mark is the sonic avatar of french artist Guillaume Perez. While he began his musical life as a thrash metal rhythm guitarist, he soon gave up playing in bands because he got fed up with the routine of rehearsals, needed to expand his sonic palette and wanted to focus on composition and arranging rather than performance. After a few dabblings with a guitar, a drumbox, a microphone and a 4-track Tascam Portastudio, he bought his first PC in 1997 and after a period of learning and testing, completed his first album, "Blue (Beautiful Mourning)" in 2000.
2002 saw the making of "To Infinity And Back (Echoing Lee)", ?'s personal tribute to Lee Ranaldo, made exclusively with samples from Lee's "From Here To Infinity". Harsher sounding, more direct and less subtle than "Blue", it remains his most experimental work to date.
In 2005, while he was working on several projects at once, he experienced a hard drive crash that forced him into hiatus until he gathered a sizeable sound bank again. In the meantime, he ventured into the world of remixing when his friend JB of french band dDamage gave him the multitrack to "Ink", which led to the 2006 EP "Ink666: dDamage Done".
But ? didn't really come back in the saddle until 2010 when he started making personal works again. That year, he also signed up on Indaba Music and since then has made a dozen remixes, the latest being the one included on this album.
He is currently working on a new instrumental album - a sci-fi conceptual work called "Red (Rehashing The Apocalypse)" - as well as an EP featuring the voice of New York poet and performance artist Nicole Blackman narrating some of her works.

The ?uestion Mark says about his track:
"This is a trip into the dark recesses of the human mind. It came out even more darkly disturbing and far less ambient than it was originally planned. That's the beauty of art: it often takes you to unexpected places if you let it guide you along the way, as a listener of course, but also as a creator. As a study on schizophrenia, this remix wouldn't be complete without its forthcoming counterpart, called Dysphoria, which will be much more rhythm driven and aggressive in an industrial fashion. In the meantime, crank up the volume and enjoy this most unsettling ride into madness."
